Data Agility Workshop Helps Retail Customer Effectively Implement New Enterprise eCommerce Technologies

CUSTOMER SCENARIO

A leading retail brand faces a problem that’s all-too-common for many businesses: a fragmented tech stack and ecosystem that no longer serves their needs. The problem developed after years of deploying minimally designed solutions that were meant to respond to immediate business demands. 

To solve this problem, the customer decided to implement two new tools. Salsify Product Experience Management (ProductXM) will consolidate and streamline product information enrichment and dissemination. Shopify Plus will replace Salesforce Commerce Cloud (SFCC). However, instituting these changes won’t be an easy task because:

  • SFCC is integrated with other databases and transaction processing systems. It currently connects to approximately 20 applications and third party applications. Additionally, more than 50 integrations will need to be rebuilt and redesigned. 
  • There is currently no centralized architecture design and data integrations capability within the company’s existing tools. 
  • The direct-to-consumer team has implemented point-to-point APIs, while the wholesale B2B team primarily built flat files integrations with SAP.

With all of this in mind, the client knew that they needed a carefully planned integration and Data Agility Strategy. Without a holistic approach, they’d be in the same position they are now, with an ineffective tech ecosystem and disjointed tools.

SOLUTION

Big Compass is an experienced partner that can help enterprise clients determine what data agility looks like within their organizations. As a result, it becomes possible to identify and execute an implementation path. 

That’s exactly why this customer engaged our team to conduct a Data Agility Workshop. It’s the first step in our Data Agility Strategy offering and an excellent way to begin a relationship with Big Compass.

During the workshop, we helped the customer identify opportunities, assess roadblocks, and plan for the future through the following process:

  • Discovery: Inventory of all architecture and current processes.
  • Analysis: Identify opportunities & inhibitors.
  • Visioning: Reference architecture and develop a project plan and timeline.
THE RESULTS

Based on our recommendations from the Data Agility Workshop, the customer now has a clear roadmap to replace SFCC and implement Salsify ProductXM and Shopify Plus. For next steps, we will be continuing the Data Agility process by sketching out a custom Data Agility Strategy session to further the discussion on the appropriate iPaaS.

With these new tools:

  • Product management capabilities will improve dramatically. 
  • The brand’s Direct-to-Consumer (DTC) experience will also be enhanced, ultimately leading to increased customer loyalty and profitability.
  • The company’s essential data services will be built as reusable integrations that promote innovation and allow for quicker speed to market. 

Perhaps most importantly, the client’s team will be empowered to extract more value out of their data, instead of spending valuable time cleaning, sanitizing and transforming it into something usable.
