Observations from the Boomi Q3 Roadmap Event
If you happened to miss Boomi’s Product Roadmap on July 9th, don’t worry Big Compass is here to give you an overview of the event with an emphasis on what we believe will impact you the most.
In general, this Roadmap event mirrored previous events. Boomi has been working hard to expand and improve their platforms and products and are excited to share their improvements and future plans with their engaged customer base.
This article is not meant to be a comprehensive or exhaustive review of every feature and planned upgrade. Instead, the items listed below highlight several points of the overall announcement. We encourage you to use the links below to drill down for more details.
The main page for the Roadmap Event is HERE.
AtomSphere Platform
The Boomi Atmosphere continues to evolve, and recently they released two new offerings.
The first is AtomSphere Go, which was released in the previous quarter. AtomSphere GO offers a usage-based fee model and allows new organizations to explore the Boomi platform, features, and benefits without capital investments. The service is available for free for 90 days and offers reasonable fees for continued use. More information about AtomSphere is available HERE.
Boomi also recently announced its Data Catalog and Preparation service. The service is designed to help IT and Business Analysts get the most out of their data and gives access to metadata of datasets and scheduled jobs. The service provides recommendations on ways to prepare your data, including automatic cleansing and normalizing, with the ability to share data and governance-related items with others. More information is available HERE.
Here are a few additional items that caught our attention.
The release and availability of these items will vary. Watch the Boomi website and talk with your Boomi rep to get specific dates and plans.
Identity Management Enhancements
Excitedly, Boomi plans to implement SSO across the Boomi platform, giving you access to all licensed components with one set of credentials. This improvement will simplify account environments and reduce administration time and effort.
The Boomi Bundle Framework
The Boomi Framework will allow the sharing of Boomi configurations and processes between accounts, making collaborations easier. This will enable the creation, distribution, and installation of configuration elements and is especially valuable to Boomi partners, Centers of Excellence, and the Boomi team.
Boomi Integration Service
Boomi Integration is what many recognize as the platform’s primary product. Integration allows for increased productivity and enables you to move data almost effortlessly.
In this service, Boomi has announced two new exciting goals:
- Custom Scripting will receive improvements for the initialization and execution of custom scripts. If you are a customer who needs more than “out of the box” functionality, this will positively impact your high-volume processes.
- With Integration Packs, organizations will have the ability to manage common process logic centrally. Impacts include multi-step functions, map extension, and help with complex mapping scenarios. These elements will no longer have to be deployed with each change.
The future for Integration also includes plans to enhance API-driven components to give users the ability to create maps and processes VIA API and improve how subprocesses are managed and deployed, positively impacting the re-use of common services.
Boomi Atom
Although Boomi Atom is not a standalone product, there were announced enhancements to the Runtime that we thought should be highlighted.
- Java 11 support will continue to be validated, and Java Runtime Upgrades will gain refined control to help automation of the process.
- Autoscaling will be improved for multi-tenant deployments with an emphasis on Molecule Scaling. Boomi and Docker images will have new logging and security features.
Connectivity (Connectors and Connectivity Services)
The extensive library of connections that Boomi offers is constantly growing and changing. To encourage its continual growth, Boomi is upgrading the Connectivity SDK with multiple new features and functions.
We think the most exciting news is the (soon to be GA) REST connector. In addition to the obvious benefits of this much-anticipated development is the allowance of calls without HTTP client connector and connection pooling.
APIM (API Management)
Boomi has notable strength in the APIM capability. This area of the platform continues to evolve with recent improvements in security and access control. Improvements don’t stop there, as Boomi plans to make API Authentication easier and upgrade monitoring and troubleshooting capabilities. That area improvements include upgrades to the Dashboard and an interface to GraphQL.
MDH, Flow and B2B/EDI
As mentioned earlier, this article is not a comprehensive or exhaustive list of the entire roadmap. Other Boomi platform areas with varying roadmap entries include MDH, Flow, and B2B/EDI. Each of these have exciting future developments.
