Boomi Out of this World Observations and Impacts
Boomi's Out of this World Observations and Impacts
Last month Big Compass' attention was focused on Boomi's Out of this World, the annual event that allows Boomi to update its customers and community on its direction, products, and future initiatives.
The message delivered at this year's event reflects a continued emphasis on what Boomi labels as "integrated experiences" – the ability to deliver connectivity on the customers' terms and timelines.
Keynote
Boomi CEO Chris McNabb's keynote address contained several references to a vision we've adopted at Big Compass; our work isn't about the integration or the data; our work is to enable data agility – the ability to move and combine data for insights and streamlined automations.

In his address, McNabb frequently referenced the need for organizations to focus on speed and productivity to generate a competitive advantage. To optimize these attributes, organizations are moving to AI and ML-enabled environments and the ability to dynamically build connectivity when needed.
The Boomi iPaaS allows its customers to accelerate and react quickly to ever-changing business needs and the IT assets that support them. Boomi brings a deliberate and organized approach to connecting people to the data they need.
I came away with three primary focus areas in Boomi's future direction:
- Speed – Hyper-automation, driven by a sophisticated system that builds connectivity as it's needed using AI and ML,
- Developer Productivity – reported to be 3x other iPaaS solutions, and
- Reuse – thinking strategically about building connected systems consistently and at scale.
3 Product Development Areas That You Need to Know
The event organized the Boomi product information into three categories: Intelligence, Connectivity, and Automation.
Intelligence
Boomi created a lot of buzz with the Discovery Catalog and Prep (DCP) release. As Boomi states – "Speedy connectivity starts with discovery," and DCP is aimed squarely at this effort.
During Chris McNabb's keynote, he also referenced data readiness and emphasized the need to go beyond prominent and widely used data connectors. He referenced "dark data" and the ability of DCP to expose this and other silo's data.
Another significant intelligence-oriented aspect of DCP is recognizing and managing personal identifiable information (PII). That includes personal, financial, health, and job information. Once DCP detects PII types and data anywhere on the Boomi platform, it can automatically auto-mask, move, check mapped fields, and give feedback about vulnerabilities.
Other exciting aspects of the Boomi platform reference in the areas of Intelligence included using Natural Language Processing (NLP) to help you expose and create visualizations of your data, and Boomi Suggest that leverages the knowledge of nearly 200 million integrations to accelerate building integrations.
Connectivity
Boomi has delivered significant connectivity enhancements and plans to add to this area of the platform. Enhancements referenced during the event included Swagger IDL and visualization that provides faster connection building and documentation capabilities.
Other significant platform discussions included the announcement of Boomi Event Streams, which introduces new capabilities for external connectivity and message delivery guarantees. In addition, the event reveals a new Connector UI for both Libraries and Developer Portals, reflecting the focus on developer speed and productivity.
Automation
The third category of product information is Automation. As Boomi states, automation accelerates time to value – a critical measure of success for organizations leveraging data agility and integration as a competitive advantage.
Boomi highlighted its focus on leveraging Automation to optimize the user experience. One of the new areas for Automation covered in the event was the stand-up of Discover.Boomi.Com, which contains solution accelerator frameworks available to new and existing Boomi customers. In addition, Boomi discussed DCP for Automation and Boomi Flow multi-cloud capabilities.
In the area of resources and multi-cloud and hybrid realities, Boomi discussed Atmosphere deployment and containerization flexibility. This automation capability can be used to scale execution and achieve infrastructure cost savings.
Summary
Boomi Out of this World always delivers excellent information The sections above are only a fraction of what was presented and there is a lot of information that can be drilled into. Technical aspects aside, the event clearly communicated that the Boomi platform continues to evolve and improve, and Boomi is aggressively moving forward.
These annual events are full of information that every Boomi customer should review and consider as organizations tune their data agility and integration futures.
